Former NASCAR driver Jeremy Mayfield was detained in western North Carolina on Oct. 1 after cops said they found methamphetamine inside his home. Mayfield, 42, was charged with possession of 1.5 grams of methamphetamine. Other than the possession of drugs, Mayfield was charged with possession of stolen goods of businesses property. According to wbtv.com, cops got a warrant to search Jeremy’s pad after receiving a tip about stolen goods on the property. The items found included welding equipment, truck parts, scrap metal, an engraving machine, truck mirrors and various other items that had been reported stolen.
Daniel Marin, Mayfield’s Washington, D.C.-based attorney said that the search of his client’s home was made on a “baseless allegation,” and he is denying all charges. “Mr. Mayfield has no knowledge of either stolen property or methamphetamine being present on his property and denies the accusation that he was in possession of methamphetamine or any other illegal drug and he denies any suggestion that he knowingly received or possessed stolen property,” Marino said. The 1999 Pocono 500 winner posted $3,000 bond and was scheduled to appear in district court Wednesday, The AP reported. Detectives told The AP that approximately $100,000 worth of merchandise from businesses in neighboring Lincoln County was found in Mayfield’s home when he was arrested.
