After grabbing 405 first-place votes, Robert Griffin III became the first Baylor University player to win the Heisman Trophy last night. The junior quarterback known as RG3 beat out the preseason favorite from Stanford on Saturday night, becoming the first Baylor player to take home college football’s most famous trophy by receiving 1,687 points. Although very few Heisman winners have went on to have NFL success in recent years, Griffin III has to realize his dream of being an NFL player. He got some hugs from his coaches, his parents, his sister and his fiance after his name was called to be the trophy winner.

At the blissful moment, he said, “This is unbelievably believable. It’s unbelievable because in the moment we’re all amazed when great things happen. But it’s believable because great things don’t happen without hard work. The great (Baylor) coach Art Briles always says great things only come with great effort. We’ve certainly worked for this. That’s right, everybody associated with Baylor University has a reason to celebrate tonight.” On the second place for the trophy vote, Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck received 247 first-place votes and 1,407 points in consecutive seasons and Alabama running back Trent Richardson was third with 138 first-place votes and 978 points.
