TJ Lane, a teenager who named by eyewitness to the shooting that killed one student and injured four others on Monday, finally was captured. It appeared that Lane targeted a group of students sitting together in the cafeteria. Danny Komertz, 15, who witnessed the shooting, said the gunman was known as an outcast who had apparently been bullied.
“I looked up and this kid was pointing a gun about 10 feet away from me to a group of four kids sitting at a table,” Komertz said. He said the gunman fired two shots quickly, and students scrambled for safety. One of them “was kind of like hiding, trying to get underneath the table, trying to hide, protecting his face.”
The slain student is Daniel Parmertor, an aspiring computer repairman who was waiting in the cafeteria for the bus for his daily 15-minute ride to a vocational school. He was gunned down while trying to duck under a cafeteria table. Panicked students screamed and ran through the halls after the gunfire broke out at the start of the school day at 1,100-student Chardon High, about 30 miles from Cleveland.
“Everybody just started running,” said 17-year-old Megan Hennessy, who was in class when she heard loud noises. “Everyone was running and screaming down the hallway.”
Two of the wounded were listed in critical condition, and another was in serious condition.
Lawyer Robert Farinacci described TJ Lane as “a fairly quiet and good kid” with grades that are “pretty impressive.” In the other side, his teacher at the Auburn Career School had no idea why Parmertor, “a very good young man, very quiet,” had been targeted by the ‘quiet and good kid Lane’, said Auburn superintendent Maggie Lynch.
Both of Lane’s family and Parmertor’s family were devastated by the shootings incident. According to WKYC-TV Lane’s family offered their ‘most heartfelt and sincere condolences’ to Parmertor’s family. They also were praying for the wounded students.
“We are shocked by this senseless tragedy,” Parmertor’s family said in a statement. “Danny was a bright young boy who had a bright future ahead of him.”
Gov. John Kasich has ordered flags at the Ohio Statehouse flown at half-staff in honor of Daniel Parmertor. Flags in Geauga County will also be lowered.
Although the suspect was finally captured, it doesn’t really answer the students’, family’s and school’s confusions. FBI officials would not comment on a motive. And Police Chief Tim McKenna said authorities “have a lot of homework to do yet” in their investigation of the shooting.
The Pennsylvania judge has decided to dismiss a case against a Muslim man accused last October of attacking an atheist who marched as ‘Zombie Muhammad’ in a local Halloween parade. Gained much questions, Cumberland County Magisterial District Judge Mark Martin said he dismisses the case because of a lack of admissible evidence.
According to Harrisburg Patriot-News, Judge Martin dismissed charges against Talaag Elbayomy, a muslim immigrant who was recorded in a grainy video last October physically engaging another man, Ernest Perce V, during the Oct. 11 parade in Mechanicsburg, Pa. Perce, a member of the “Parading Atheists of Central PA,” filed a complaint with police alleging that Elbayomy attacked him during the parade and inflicted bodily harm.
“He grabbed me, choked from the back, and spun me around to try to get my “Muhammad of Islam” sign off that was wrapped around my neck,” said Perce.
Judge Martin threw out the charge against Elbayomy and also made remarks that have led a number of organizations to accuse him of bringing religion into the court room. Judge Martin told Perce that “what you have done is you have completely trashed their essence, their being. They find it very very very offensive.”
The judge also had this to say,
“If I were a Muslim, I’d find it offensive. But you have that right, but you’re way outside your boundaries or first amendment rights. This is what, and I said I spent about 7 and a half years living in other countries. when we go to other countries it’s not uncommon for people to refer to us as ugly Americans this is why we are referred to as ugly Americans, because we are so concerned about our own rights we don’t care about other people’s rights as long as we get our say but we don’t care about the other people’s say.”
Fans agree that they will never be bored to wait and enjoy J.K Rowling’ most popular book Harry Potter. When J.K Rowling said that The Deathly Hallow is the last series of Harry Potter’s adventure, they hoped at least there will another book, another adventure, even though it will not be the next Harry Potter. And yap, it was leaked that J.K Rowling is preparing the new book. The news was already out before she tweeted, “As you may have heard, I have a new book out later this year. Very different to Harry, although I’ve enjoyed writing it every bit as much.”
According to The Guardian, Rowling’s next book will be for adults published by Little, Brown in the U.S. and U.K. So far, there’s no other details have been explained. The title, publication date and further details will be released later this year.
Remembering Little, Brown’s publisher David Shelley would be serving as Rowling’s editor, it was assumed that the novel is going to be a crime novel. Shelley’s crime fiction ties run deep: he started his career as the publishing director at Allison & Busby ‘an independent press strong in crime and thriller writing’ and ‘dragged it back into profit, introducing a line of library hardback crime novels’ before being hired away by Little, Brown to serve as ‘editorial director of crime and thrillers.’
Besides saying the book will be very different to Harry Potter, Rowling’s also said,” The freedom to explore new territory is a gift that Harry’s success has brought me, and with that new territory it seemed a logical progression to have a new publisher. I am delighted to have a second publishing home in Little, Brown, and a publishing team that will be a great partner in this new phase of my writing life.”
How vary it is, we believe the opus will be the same the surprising and unique
The hall of fame catcher Garry Carter has passed away leaving memories of the exuberance he displayed on the field at 57-year-old. The Kid died Thursday at a hospice in the West Palm Beach, Fla., area after battling brain cancer.
Carter was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor last May, two weeks after finishing his second season as coach at Palm Beach Atlantic University. After Carter’s diagnosis, the Mets began playing a highlight reel of his accomplishments on the video board during games at City Field and posted this message: “Our thoughts are with you Gary. From your millions of fans and the New York Mets.”
Garry Carter’s family in home and field feel the death as huge loss. Kimmy Bloemers, Carter’s daughter, wrote on the family website to pour out the sadness.
“I am deeply saddened to tell you all that my precious dad went to be with Jesus today at 4:10 p.m.,” Bloemers said. “This is the most difficult thing I have ever had to write in my entire life but I wanted you all to know.”
“I believe with all my heart that dad had a standing ovation as he walked through the gates of heaven to be with Jesus,” Bloemers added. “Thank you all for loving my dad and my entire family.”
Mets Hall of Fame pitcher Tom Seaver had this to say about Carter, “Nobody loved the game of baseball more than Gary Carter. Nobody enjoyed playing the game of baseball more than Gary Carter. He wore his heart on his sleeve every inning he played,”
Carter’s bubbly personality and eagerness to excel on a ball field made him a joy to watch at the plate and behind it. Even his Hall of Fame bronze plaque at Cooperstown shows him with a toothy grin and bears his boyish nickname — the “Kid” forever. The Mets told his nickname ‘The Kid’ captured how Gary approached life.
“He did everything with enthusiasm and with gusto on and off the field. His smile was infectious. He was a Hall of Famer in everything he did.”
“Gary was one of the happiest guys in the world every day,” Mets teammate Mookie Wilson once said.
Carter whose single for the Mets in the 1986 World Series touched off one of the most improbable rallies in baseball was immediately recognizable with curly, blond locks flaring out from beneath his helmet, and a rigid, upright batting stance. The Kid was an 11-time All-Star and three-time Gold Glove winner. His bottom-of-the-10th single in Game 6 of the 1986 Series helped the Mets mount a charge against the Boston Red Sox and eventually beat them. Carter played nearly two decades with the Mets, Montreal, San Francisco and the Los Angeles Dodgers. In the two decades career Carter played 2,296 games in his career and finished with 324 home runs and 1,225 runs batted in.
Carter has presented the durability and hard work and developed a reputation as a smiling assassin who delivered clutch hits and rock-solid defense.
“The Kid’s contribution to our National Pastime is big, but his heart was even bigger,” Hall of Fame President Jeff Idelson said in a statement. “We’ll always remember his caring way, ever-present smile and strong devotion to family, community and the Baseball Hall of Fame.”
Bobbi Kristina, Whitney Houston’s daughter was hospitalized at 10:30 a.m. Sunday in a distraught reaction after the Mom has gone forever. The 18-year-old Kristina was treated for a stress-related condition and released, according to sources close to the family who refused to be named The sudden death was not only shocked the family but also the fans, Grammy insiders, and the society at large. To determine the sudden death’s cause, police and coroner’s officials is investigating the death location and the corpse.
The sudden death stimulates many assumptions, but so far there’s no obvious sign of foul play found. Beverly Hills police Lt. Mark Rosen said, “There were no obvious signs of criminal intent at the scene of Houston’s death. Her body was discovered by a member of her entourage.”
The cause of death is unknown, but it is increasingly looking like Whitney may have fallen asleep or lapsed into unconsciousness in the bathtub and drowned. Whitney reportedly had been drinking the night before and authorities believe a combination of Xanax and alcohol could have fatally sedated her.
Capt. John Kades of the Los Angeles County coroner’s office said an autopsy was begun Sunday, but results would be withheld at the request of Beverly Hills police. According to the TMZ, a coroner’s spokesman says the results are on a security hold, which just means nothing is being released at this time. Although the autopsy of Whitney is complete, a cause of death cannot be determined until the toxicology results which normally take a month.
Until today, there’re stories related to reaction over Houston’s death. About Whitney’s career, Whitney’s drug issue, Whitney’s ex-husband, and another testimonies about the superstar. A story came from a local music booking agent, Al Tillman, who has ever invited Whitney and her then-husband Bobby Brown to the Taboo Bistro club in Atlanta about four years ago to hear a band perform.
Tillman noted that Houston’s death comes about a week after the death of “Soul Train” creator Don Cornelius. Tillman said not many people remember that Houston and Brown met at the 1989 Soul Train music awards. “She was bombing and people were booing, and Bobby came out and starts to rock the house,” Tillman said. “She had a crush on him because of that. They started dating after that and got married.”
The Federal Bureau of Investigation’s documents that released Thursday reveals numerous lively details about Steve Jobs’ personal life and professional past, as recounted to FBI agents by his colleagues, neighbors and friends. The 191-page file on Steve Jobs also speaking about Jobs’ character and integrity and asserting that he always conducted his business dealings in a reputable manner. Apparently, those are the consideration for them to recommend Jobs for a post during the George H.W. Bush leadership.
The document confirms much of what is already known about Jobs. At least 29 people who knew Steve Jobs were interviewed for the FBI’s background check. Some acknowledged Jobs used illegal drugs such as marijuana and LSD while in college, his Spartan lifestyle and the intense managerial style that created friction between him and some of his colleagues. One person told the FBI that Jobs had a child out of wedlock and basically abandoned the mother and their daughter. The interview subject added that more recently Jobs had been supportive of them. Jobs publicly acknowledged his out-of-wedlock child. This is the parts that never have been known before: It poured out the Apple co-founder’s relationship with the government, revealing that he was given top secret clearance between 1988 and 1990 and was being considered by President George H. W. Bush’s administration for a position on the president’s Export Council. Much of the file consists of the 1991 background check the FBI performed in light of this prospective appointment.
Another story came from some pages of memos and handwritten notes. There’s a glimpse into a $1 million bomb threat that was made against Apple on February 7. 1985, several months before Apple fired Jobs.
“An unidentified male caller made a series of telephone calls to of Apple computer Inc. and advised that ‘devices’ had been placed in homes of captioned individuals and one million dollars must be paid,” the FBI told the threat in a memo.
The file is based largely on a 1991 background check compiled after Jobs’ bitter 1985 Apple ouster, when he was running NeXT, nurturing Pixar and a candidate for an appointment to President George H.W. Bush‘s export council. His triumphant return to Apple and international rock star status were still years away.
“Several individuals questioned Mr. Jobs’ honesty stating that Mr. Jobs will twist the truth in order to achieve his goals,” the report said.
One Jobs acquaintance called the computer genius “a deceptive individual who is not completely forthright and honest,” the report stated.
The FBI writes that one interviewee “added that although the Appointee is basically an honest and trustworthy person, he is a very complex individual and his moral character is suspect.” Another characterized Jobs as “not totally forthright and honest,” and as someone who “has a tendency to distort reality in order to achieve his goals.”
The whale shark is the icon of the ocean wild animal and called as threatening fish. In the other side, many fishermen see it’s enchanting and challenging to hunt them. A whale shark promises huge of profit for the obsessive fishermen if they’re successfully pulling them out of the water. Four months ago, a 25-foot-long dead whale washed onto the beach. It was sold for a sizable sum: 100,000 plus rupees, or more than $2,000. Less than two weeks ago, the fishermen discovered a massive whale shark unconscious offshore. Tuesday, CBS news reports the 40-foot-long, seven-ton fish was finally pulled out of the water in Karachi, Pakistan. The dead gentle giant took five cranes to lift. And then yeah, the shark’s meat earned 1.7 million rupees, equivalent with $ 18,000.
It’s also not hard to found the whale sharks mutilated with their fins cut off, left by the hunters to die. In October, Washington post reported on newly released photos by the Pew Environment Group, which showed rows and rows of fins in Taiwan, as far as the eye could see. The photos “suggest that Taiwan, which reports the fourth-largest shark catch in the world, is an even greater player in the international shark trade than previously thought’. People in Taiwan love whale sharks as ‘tofu fish’ because of the taste and texture of their flesh.
Whale shark hunting is banned in many countries in Southeast Asia, and yet the giant fish continues to be highly sought after. While Taiwan reports the fourth-largest shark catch in the world, TRAFFIC International recently placed Pakistan as 12th among the shark exporting countries in the world.
In 2005, the International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources declared the global whale shark population was vulnerable, MSNBC observes. And the fact about population number was getting worse. In 2008, the shark had been moved to the organization’s red list, which is reserved for threatened species.
The threat to the whale shark population is not only come from whale shark hunt, it’s also about the habitat damage. According to the Whale Shark Project, a conservation awareness group, pollution and over fishing near reefs often leads to a reduced available food supply for the creatures. In an effort to help protect the animals, some businesses have turned to ecotourism to educate people about the sharks and their environment.
The Longtime fishermen and divers admitted that whale sharks are really amazing animals. They are wildlife animals and make a wrong movement near them could bring more harm than good. But they are a gentle giant that do not strike divers who swim alongside them. Another said the other peculiarity that makes sharks are amazing is their price and meat. What then? Just let them, the ambitious hunter, live more wild than those sharks. What is the right way to admire whale sharks? Feel happy to consume them as tofu fish or Feel happy to see them live wild in the ocean?
A writer may has passed away physically, but his book is everlasting. We see it on the one of the greatest English language writers; Charles Dickens.
The Oliver Twist teller was born 200 years ago this week, and it is marked by the million literacy lover, including the Prince of Wales. He paid tribute to Charles Dickens as “one of the greatest writers of the English language” at an event in London on the 200th anniversary of Dickens’s birth. He was joined by the Duchess of Cornwall, the Archbishop of Canterbury and luminaries from the worlds of literature and theatre for a service of thanksgiving at Westminster Abbey, where wreaths were laid at Dickens’ grave in Poets’ Corner. The giant search engine Google also marks it in its latest Doodle. Today’s Doodle references characters from a number of Dicken’s most loved works.
The ages and the opus of Dickens are not only appreciated individually, the city does so. It is London. He created some of the best-known and impressing figures in English literature; Oliver Twist, David Copperfield, Pip, Miss Havisham and Magwitch. But of all the characters he wrote about, none played as important a role in his work as that of London itself: its passionately atmosphere and its sorrow atmosphere, its glittering promise and grimy streets and the extremes of poverty and wealth experienced by those who lived there. The fact is strengthened by Alex Werner, the curator of the Museum of London’s “Dickens and London” exhibition. He says to the CNN, “London was ‘absolutely central’ to Dickens’ work. It triggered his imagination. He called it his ‘magic lantern’, and would spend hours pacing the streets, drawing inspiration from what he saw around him.”
A city could be more than a setting that decorates a story. London was Dickens’ inspiration. When Charles was a thinker in a night, London’s bustle is what he thinks about. London helping to spark his creativity and provide ideas for some of the most memorable characters, settings and plot twists in English literature.
The Britain and literature lovers the world over celebrates Dickens’ bicentenary in 2012 by exploring the city. The insomniac Dickens spent many hours walking London’s streets in the dead of night and some of Dickens’ greatest opus came about as a result of his lengthy strolls. ”He knew its alleys and streets better than anyone. We know from his letters that in October and November 1863, for example, he was walking 10 to 15 miles a night, while working on his book.”
According to CNN, several Dickens walking tours take place around the city. London Walks runs a Charles Dickens’ London tour every Friday afternoon at 2.30pm, departing from Temple tube station. The company also runs special Dickensian Christmas walks in late November and December.
In the framework of Dickens’ anniversary, the Dickens Museum is running a weekly Dickensian London walk each Wednesday evening, from February 8 to April 4, departing from the museum, in Doughty Street, at 5pm. The Charles Dickens Museum is located in Dickens’ former family home, in Doughty Street. It’s a memorable place, he wrote “Oliver Twist” and “Nicholas Nickleby” here.
People in the world at large always a kind of special euphoria in a big football match. But it’s not an expected euphoria in Cairo, it’s a night mare riot. The deputy minister also said that the violence at football matches across North Africa is the biggest disaster in the nation’s soccer history. Seventy-three people were killed and at least 1000 supporter injured on Wednesday after a soccer pitch invasion in the Egyptian city of Port Said. The ‘war’ broke out at the end of a match when al-Masry beat Al-Ahli 3-1.
Deputy Health Minister Hesham Sheiha showed his disappointment, “This is unfortunate and deeply saddening. It’s the biggest disaster in Egypt soccer history.”
Mohamed Abo Treika told his club television channel how chaotic was the moment, “This is not football. This is a war and people are dying in front of us. There’s no movement and no security and no ambulances. I call for the premier league to be cancelled. This is horrible situation and today can never be forgotten.”
The conflict in the green field was linked to the case political unrest began sweeping the region more than a year ago. The politicians and sports official denied that the problem caused by the security at the match and blamed the nation’s leader for allowing the tragedy. A member of parliament for Port Said, accused officials and security forces of allowing the disaster, telling they still had ties to the government of President Hosni Mubarak.
Some witnesses told the match burst into riot when Al-ahli supporters’ unfurled banners mocking Port Said and an Al-Ahli fan descended onto the pitch and attacking al-Ahli player. Al-Masry supporters responded it by pouring onto the pitch and attacking Al-Ahli players. And then they turned to terraces to attack al-Ahli fans. The witnesses added that people dead after has been trampled in the crush of the panicking wild crowd or because fell from terraces. Among the dead victims were a number of policemen. We can see in television the supporters running onto the fields and chasing Al-Ahli Players, but then they seemed overwhelmed and fans were still able to kick and punch the players as they escaped.
Finally two helicopters were sent to Port Said to fly out some of the visiting Al-Ahli soccer and its fans and the helicopters would transport the injured to military hospitals. An official in the zone’s local ambulance service said that hospitals throughout the Suez Canal zone were put on a state of emergency, and dozens of ambulances rushed to Port Said from the Canal cities of Ismailia and Suez.
The two iconic organization that have assisted millions women, Susan G. Komen for the Cure and Planned Parenthood affiliates ending their partnership. It related with the abortion debate and then it will mean a cutoff of huge dollars in grants, especially for breast exams.
Glundberd-Prossor, the spokeswoman fror Planned Parenthood, called it as a national policy decision. She told that Planned Parenthood has long appreciated and enjoyed a solid partnership with the Komen affiliate. “They’ve been nothing but wonderful to work with. We’re two of the strongest women’s health organizations in the state and they’re really relied on us to do this kind of outreach.”
According to the Seattle Times, Planned Parenthood says that the move results from Komen bowing to pressure from anti-abortion activist. Komen, which founded in 1982, tells that the main reason is that Congress is investigating Planned Parenthood. The related inquiry was launched by a conservative Republican who was urged to act by anti-abortion groups. Planned Parenthood also told the Komen grants totaled around $ 680,000 in 2011 and $ 580,000 in the previous year, going to at least 19 of its affiliates for breast-cancer screening and other breast-health services. Some of the grants was allocated for breast-cancer outreach and screening for two groups of vulnerable woman. Gludberd-Prossor said a $ 52,492 women grant funded outreach to Latina, Native-American, underinsured and isolated women, including a mobile unit that screened and administrated mammograms for more than 400 women last year. She added,” We won’t be applying for that money next year.”
Komen, the organization that has invested more than $ 1, 9 billion in breast-cancer research, health services and advocacy, via the spokeswoman, Leslie, said the cutoff results from the charity’s newly adopted criteria barring grants to organizations under investigation by local, state or federal authorities. According to Komen, this applies to Planned Parenthood because it is the focus of an inquiry launched by Rep. Cliff Stearns, R-Fla., researching to determine whether public money was improperly spent on abortions.
The news attracted the crowd’s responses. Some people supporting Komen’s decision and other people in twitter arguing the policy and refuse to give money to Komen again. How about the congress? Sen. Patty Murray of Washington said that she is deeply disappointed that she is deeply disappointed that politics is once again involved between women and their health-care needs. “Breast cancer screening should not be a political issue, and I am very concerned that this decision by the Susan G. Komen for the Cure foundation will cut women off from the heath-care provider they rely on for critical preventive care.
In the other side, Anti-abortion groups called it as good news. The Alliance Defense Fund said Komen has decided the good policy. They supporting Komen for seeing the contradiction that does exist in the charity; a lift saving work meet the relationship with an abortionist that has ended million of lives.
