Andrej Pejic now is well-known as the only top-tier fashion model who can walk down the runway as either a man or a woman. His gender bending has never taunted as a strange looks. Public agree to call it as androgynous beauty, and it has turned him into a model who high-in demand for both women’s and men’s fashion shows and photo spreads.
Pejic has gracefully posed for covers of 14 magazines in last year alone, including an ad campaign for a Dutch push-up bra. Last year, he was the face for a fashion line by designer Marc Jacobs and he was recently selected for the coveted end-of-show spot at a Jean Paul Gaultiera fashion show and he was crowned with an haute couture wedding gown. He also models skimpy swimming suits and rivals female models with his 6 feet tall and perfect bone structure, flawless skin and golden locks.
Those ‘features’ are enough to make the other slender physique women jealous. Pejic also admitted he is comfortable in his own skin. “I’m lucky in that sense,” he says. “If I had big muscles and were hairy with a beard, I might not be comfortable with that.”
The 20-year-old Pejic is enjoying his femininity, but it doesn’t mean he did any treatment or effort to get this figure. He isn’t trying to be a woman. People assumed he is seen as a bit of a maverick, someone who has embraced his sexuality without any need for explanation or justification. Sebastien Micke, a French photographer who has photographed transgender models, says Pejic’s femininity is effortless. “Andrej’s got this thing that supermodels have: how to pose in front of the camera,” Micke says. “It’s just natural.”
Pejic has entered the model industry without prepared by any modeling school or passed some casting. He was discovered by a talent scout while working at a McDonald’s in Australia as a teenager. From an early age, Pejic exhibited qualities thought of as traditionally feminine, just like Barbie dolls over toy cars. As a teenager, he often hung out with girls and was once busted for stealing makeup from a drugstore.
Although his body is naturally performs the graciousness, it’s still not clear about his sexual orientation, whether he’s looking for a masculine figure or prefer to be hetero by love a woman. Smiling, he only said, “Love has no boundaries.”
