National Breast Cancer Awareness Month (NBCAM) is an annual international health campaign organized by major breast cancer charities every October to increase awareness of the disease and to raise funds for research into its cause, prevention, diagnosis, treatment and cure. On the campaign, there is a partnership of national public service organizations, professional medical associations, and government agencies working together to promote breast cancer awareness, share information on the disease, and provide greater access to screening services. October has been designated as National Breast Cancer Awareness Month and there are many events planned online as well as locally to promote the fight against this disease such as free screening mammograms by Health Departments, live talk show, presentation and discussion by breast cancer-campaigning organizations.
Moreover, NBCAM was announced by President Barack Obama through Proclamation 8572 – National Breast Cancer Awareness Month on October 1, 2010: “… Now, Therefore, I, Barack Obama, President of the United States of America, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and the laws of the United States, do hereby proclaim October 2010 as National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. I encourage citizens, Government agencies, private businesses, nonprofit organizations, and all other interested groups to join in activities that will increase awareness of what Americans can do to prevent and control breast cancer
