Lefty C.J. Wilson will join Albert Pujols in Los Angeles Angels, as the Angels continue a surprising free agent spending spree. according to Wilson’s agent, Bob Garber, the team has agreed to terms with free-agent pitcher C.J. Wilson on a five-year deal for about $77.5 million. Earlier in the day, the Angels and slugger Albert Pujols agreed to a 10-year contract worth $250 million to $260 million, a person familiar with that deal told the AP. The total of the contracts worth brings the Angels’ tally to at least $327.5 million on the last day of the 2011 Winter Meetings.
The addition of Wilson to a staff led by right-handers Jered Weaver, Dan Haren and Ervin Santana could give the Angels’ formation as formidable as the Phillies’ and the Giants’.Wilson, a 31-year-old Fountain Valley, was born in Newport Beach and attended high school at Fountain Valley. He posted a 2.94 ERA, 8.3 K/9, 3.0 BB/9, 0.64 HR/9, and 49.3% groundball rate in 223 1/3 innings this year and added another 28 innings in the postseason. Wilson, 31, is a born-and-raised Californian. On the other hand, Wilson had a bad showing in the postseason, by surrendering 20 walks in 23 innings during the ALCS and World Series. However, the signing of Wilson, combined with the acquisition of Pujols, would make the Angels the favorite to reclaim the American League West title.
