Raksha Bandhan which is commonly known as Rakhi is a popular celebration located in North India. On Saturday, 13th of August there will be a lot of Indians across the country and abroad observe Raksha Bandhan, the festival that highlights the love and affection of the brother-sister bond. The festival falls on the full moon day (Shravan Poornima) of the Shravan month of the Hindustan calendar. Raksha Bandhan which is an actual means to bond people with protection of brotherhood involves the participation of All Indian Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs and now a days, it is celebrated throughout India without any religious barriers.

On this occasion, women tie a thread to their brothers which symbolizes their eternal tie and pray for them. The brothers then promise to protect their sisters and also give token sums, sweets and gifts. It is regular on the celebration day that women visit their brothers’ homes and perform an aarti on them. The Raksha Bandhan celebration teaches about the importance of brotherhood and family relationship. There is a philosophy which depicts the essence of Rakhi festival: “Brothers are like streetlights along the road, they don’t make distance any shorter but they light up the path and make the walk of their sisters worthwhile.”
