The level of arsenic in a sample of Mott’s brand apple juice is more than five times the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s legal limit for safe drinking water. The report is according to the independent product safety research of the New York consumer advocacy group Empire State Consumer Project. The Dr. Oz team conducted a huge study on leading apple juice brands, such as Minute Maid Apple Juice, Apple and Eve Apple Juice, Mott’s, Juicy Juice, and Gerber, finding high levels of arsenic in most of them which can cause and increase risk of skin cancer, lung cancer, liver cancer and the other health problems.
As a natural substance, arsenic can be found naturally at very low levels in soil, plants and drinking water, and most people in the world are routinely exposed to minute amounts of this naturally-occurring arsenic without serious consequences. However, recently the federal Food and Drug Administration and toxicologists disputes the suggestions of the television show host Dr. Mehmet Oz that trace amounts of arsenic in many apple juice products pose a health concern. Some experts make a distinction between this abundant organic arsenic, which is harmless, and inorganic arsenic, which can be found in some pesticides and other chemicals.
