One particular activity of many sports enthusiasts is the attempt to rank teams, to place them in a certain order of strength. LSU, Alabama, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State hold the top four spots in the first BCS standings. LSU finds itself atop the standings, ahead of Alabama by the slimmest of margins, while Oklahoma, which is first in the USA today poll, slipped to the third position. More surprising perhaps is the rise of the Oklahoma State to fourth in the standings. The BCS standings combine the coaches’ poll, Harris poll and a compilation of six computer rankings. The LSU Tigers football which is known also as Fighting Tigers or Bayou Bengals represents Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana in NCAA Division I FBS college football. The team current head coach is Les Miles who has led the team since 2005. In their SEC opener at Thursday night, the Tigers won over Mississippi State with the score of 19-6. The head coach, at a statement, told the press about the recent game winning.

“I told the team the defense needed to come in and play the way they did to have the success that we came to have and they did. I felt like the intensity of the defense was strong and that really ended up being the tale of the day. I felt like the offense did the things that they needed to do. I thought we threw and caught, minus one pass, very well. We had over 200 yards throwing and I felt like we were very accurate. Minus a pick, I felt like we executed very well in the passing game. We were without our punter and we punted it perfectly, but I thought our guy did a good job. All being said, it’s a win on the road in the SEC against a quality opponent. I think Coach Mullen has done a great job here and I think that’s a very much improved football team,” he said. The record which Mississippi State defeated LSU was most recently in 1999. It means the Tigers have a streak win over several periods. The balanced strategy of the mixture of defense and offense which was applied by Les Miles led the team won over the Bulldogs in the last 11 meetings.
