Russell Pearce, one of the most influential state politicians in the nation and a powerful voice on illegal immigration, was on the edge of losing his Senate seat in Tuesday’s exceptional recall election. He was defeated by Jerry Lewis, a fellow Republican who does not support the immigration concentrated effort and has vowed to reject gifts from special interest groups and work to ban gifts for legislators. Pearce was trailing challenger Jerry Lewis as of 8:43 p.m. by a 53 percent to 46 percent margin. Pearce conceded less than an hour later. Continue
Samuel J. Wurzelbacher, better known as Joe the Plumber, filed papers on Friday to run as a Republican in Ohio’s Ninth Congressional District, a seat altered in redistricting that will pit two longtime Democratic lawmakers, Dennis Kucinich and Marcia Kaptur, against each other in the Democratic primary. The Joe For Congress 2012 campaign committee also filed a statement of organization Thursday, using Wurzelbacher’s home address as the committee’s address. Continue
Rep. Peter King joined Herman Cain among the ranks of Republican polls who disenchanted the Occupy Wall Street protesters and their nationwide opposite numbers, calling them a “ragtag mob” and “anarchists” on the Laura Ingraham radio show Friday. King compared them to similar left-wing demonstrations of the 1960s that took to the streets and caused policy changes after the media “glorified” the protesters, adding to the growing chorus of Republicans publicly disapproving the Occupy Wall Street protests. Chris Christie is the 55th and current Governor of New Jersey resulted from his election to the governorship in November 2009. Christie took office as Governor of New Jersey on January 19, 2010. Previously he served as United States Attorney for the District of New Jersey. New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie is reconsidering his decision not to enter the 2012 presidential competition. He said he will let top Republican donors know within days about his plans. During the past few weeks, several leading Republican donors and fundraisers have been urging the popular Republican governor to reconsider his decision not to run and to enter the GOP primary.
Christie has made it clear in the past he was not going to run in his own inimitable way: “Short of suicide, I don’t really know what I’d have to do to convince you people that I’m not running. I’m not running! I’ve said I don’t want to. I’m not going to. There is zero chance I will. I don’t feel like I’m ready to be president. I don’t want to run for president. I don’t have the fire in the belly to run for president. But, yet, everyone seems to think that I’ve left the door open a little bit.”
