The Motown Legend Got into the Spotlight of “The Sing-Off’s” Season 2 Finale0 comments

“The Sing-Off’s” groups braved ten weeks of tense eliminations to arrive at this week’s live finale and brought a special surprise guest into the spotlight along to collaborate with. The Motown legend, Smokey Robinson, sang his classic, “You Really Got A Hold On Me,” with the much beloved a cappella group Afro-Blue, a Jazz-Pop ensemble from Howard University. Afro-Blue got the ultimate sympathy prize for getting booted last week and their sophisticated sound backed the surprise visitor up perfectly and the performance was an unexpected treat for viewers.

After the voting of the show was closed, the three surviving groups; Pentatonix, Ivy Leaguers the Dartmouth Aires and Urban Method; a break from competing and came together for some incredible joint performances. Host Nick Lachey performed “Give Me Just One Night (Una Noche)” with Pentatonix; a group of Arlington residents. Judges Sarah Bareilles and Ben Folds also gave performances with the two other finalists, Urban Method (eight studio musicians who invented “rapappella”) and Dartmouth Aires (Dartmouth College’s oldest a cappella group), respectively. Finally, at the end of the show, Pentatonix, cutting-edge mix masters from Texas, were chosen to be “The Sing-Off’s” Season 2 champions and winners of the $200,000 prize and Sony Music recording contract.
