Since the league instituted its current play format in 2002, with four division winners and two Wild Card teams earning playoff berths, three Wild Card teams have advanced to the Super Bowl. The Broncos are perhaps the biggest surprise of any Wild Card team in the AFC Playoffs as the team recently has the toughest QB, Tim Tebow. Meanwhile, the Steelers and Baltimore Ravens had their typical battle for supremacy in the AFC North. Two losses to the Ravens relegated the Steelers to playing an AFC Wild Card game.

However, the Steelers will enter Wild Card Weekend with serious issues. Steelers QB Ben Roethslisberger hasn’t been the same since spraining his ankle and the team lost RB Rashard Mendenhall for the Wild Card game. According to the SB Nation blog Mile High Report, there’s a less than 100-percent chance that wide receiver Eddie Royal will see the field Sunday, but the progress is promising.
